The point is not to create another compliance
dashboard. It keeps the few things that currently matter most in
sight.
Step 1 · Reflect
Make a professional judgement — with help available when
needed
RAG is used only where Green, Amber or Red represents a
meaningful judgement about quality, safety, effectiveness,
compliance or impact on children.
What to think about
Consider whether leaders identify patterns, understand why
they are happening and can show that agreed learning is
followed through in day-to-day practice. Use concise evidence;
do not copy case records.
Leadership & managementExample quality judgement
Leaders identify patterns from incidents and ensure learning
leads to sustained change in practice.
Reflection: Individual incidents are reviewed promptly,
but themes across several incidents are not yet consistently
analysed or followed through at team level.
Red selected — this is a priority finding and will create an
Action Plan entry.
Nurtured Practice does not make the judgement. You decide the rating and records why it is justified.
Step 2 · Understand
Coaching changes with the judgement
Nurtured Practice does not generate an inspection grade. It
provides focused prompts that help you consider the judgement
and think about what should change next.
RED
Incident learning and follow-through
The finding suggests a significant weakness in how learning
from incidents is brought together and translated into
sustained practice.
Recorded reflection
Individual incidents are reviewed, but recurring patterns
are not consistently analysed across the home.
Coaching focus
Priority: understand the impact and first response
What recurring themes are being missed, what could children
experience if this continues, and what immediate management
response would provide stronger oversight?
• What pattern is visible across recent incidents?
• What would staff do differently if the learning were
embedded?
• How will leaders know the change has worked?

artificially RAG-rating paperwork.

Step 3 · Improve
One Action Plan for findings and cross-check gaps
Amber/Red findings and significant cross-check gaps feed into
the same improvement workflow. Nurtured Practice carries the
context forward; the home decides the final action.

Intended difference
Children experience more consistent responses because staff
learning is identified, discussed and followed through.
Step 4 · Review progress
Turn the Practice Reflection into a useful team conversation
Team Reflection distils the Practice Reflection into strengths,
every Amber/Red priority and the actions that matter — without
dumping the whole reflection into a meeting document.

Nurtured Practice supports ongoing self-evaluation, reflection and
improvement in children’s homes.
Nurtured Practice is an independent service provided by JC Empowering
Solutions. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by
Ofsted. Use of Nurtured Practice does not guarantee any particular
inspection outcome.
2. The licence agreement
This is a business-to-business licence for 12 months unless a
different period is expressly agreed in writing. The quotation or
order identifies the customer, licensed home or agreed multiple
homes/provider arrangement, dates and fees. Access is licensed by that
arrangement, rather than an arbitrary number of seats. Each authorised
user must use their own account and keep credentials secure. Access
must not be shared with unlicensed homes or resold.
A Request Access submission is an enquiry, not acceptance of these
Terms or an order. The licence is formed by the customer’s acceptance
of the written quotation/order and these Terms. Any expressly agreed
variation must be recorded in writing.
3. Payment and renewal
Invoicing and renewal are manual. There is no automatic renewal unless
expressly agreed in writing. Prices and payment dates are set out in
the quotation/order, not these Terms. Fees are normally committed once
the licence begins. There is no general right to mid-term cancellation
with a pro-rata refund, subject to any rights that cannot lawfully be
excluded and any different written agreement.
Each organisation has a common renewal date. Where an additional home
joins part-way through the organisation’s licence term, its access
ends on that common renewal date and its charge is calculated pro rata
by the whole months remaining, as specified in the written quotation
or order. No standard multi-home discount applies. Bespoke pricing may
be agreed in writing. Billing and pro-rata charges are administered
manually.
4. Professional responsibility
Nurtured Practice supports professional judgement. It does not replace
provider responsibility, safeguarding decision-making, professional
management judgement or organisation-specific legal or regulatory
advice. Outputs depend partly on the information entered by users. A
responsible person must check findings and suggested actions before
relying on them. Do not delay safeguarding or regulatory action while
working on a Practice Reflection.
5. Information and permitted use
The service is not intended to store identifiable information about
individual children. Use first initials only where a practice example
genuinely needs a reference to a young person. Initials alone do not
make information anonymous: avoid identifiable or sensitive details
and copied case records. The customer is responsible for lawful,
proportionate entries and for maintaining its operational records.
6. Ownership
Customer reflection content remains the customer’s information. JC
Empowering Solutions owns its original Nurtured Practice software,
methodology, structure, questions, guidance and product content. The
licence permits use within the agreed home/provider arrangement and
internal use of completed reflection outputs, including sharing with
authorised professional advisers or inspectors where appropriate. It
does not permit resale or redistribution of the underlying product or
question library.
We will not sell customer reflection content, use it for AI training
or benchmarking, or independently commercially exploit it. We use it
only to provide the agreed service on the customer’s instructions,
subject to legal obligations.
7. Availability and security
We will use reasonable care and skill in providing the service.
Maintenance, security updates and interruptions may occur; continuous
availability is not guaranteed. Follow the Saving/Saved status and
recovery instructions and keep appropriate organisational records.
Notify us promptly of suspected unauthorised access.
8. Liability and reliance
The service does not promise compliance, a predicted rating or any
particular inspection outcome. The customer remains responsible for
its decisions and obligations. Nothing in these Terms excludes or
limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by
negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or
limited. No additional monetary liability cap is introduced in these
Terms.
9. Suspension and licence end
Access may be suspended for non-payment, serious misuse, a serious
breach of the agreed licence or a significant security concern. Where
practical, we will explain the reason and seek resolution. Expiry or
suspension does not itself renew the licence or erase stored data.
When a licence ends, the account becomes inactive on Day 0. During
Days 0–30, operational and reflection data remains securely stored for
recovery. After 30 days it becomes eligible for deletion from the live
system, subject to legal or legitimate retention requirements and
normal backup cycles. This does not mean immediate deletion from every
backup. Contact us during the recovery period to arrange recovery;
normal account access is inactive. Recovery and deletion may be
administered manually at launch. Customer-downloaded copies remain the
customer’s responsibility.
10. Support and changes
Use Contact for licence, billing, access and
service enquiries. The version of these Terms agreed with the order
applies to that licence; material contractual changes require
agreement. Product and security updates do not themselves change the
agreed commercial terms.
Data Processing Schedule
1. Parties, scope and instructions
This Schedule forms part of the licence. The customer identified in
the accepted order is controller; JC Empowering Solutions is processor
for personal data within customer reflection content. UK GDPR and the
Data Protection Act 2018 apply. This Schedule prevails over
inconsistent licence wording about that processing. Business
administration data for which we are controller is covered by the
Privacy Notice.
The subject matter is provision of Nurtured Practice to the licensed
home/provider. Processing comprises collection, storage, organisation,
retrieval, editing, transmission to authorised users, export, support,
recovery and deletion. It continues for the licence and the agreed
recovery/retention period. Its purpose is to deliver the customer’s
Practice Reflection and improvement service. We process only
documented instructions in the accepted order, this Schedule and
subsequent authorised written requests, including instructions about
transfers, unless law requires otherwise. We will tell the customer
about a legal requirement before processing unless prohibited, and
promptly flag any instruction we believe infringes data-protection
law.
2. Data and people
Data may include professional names, work contact details, roles,
reflection authorship, assessments, reflections and improvement
actions. People concerned are customer staff, managers, professional
contacts and, only to the extent minimally referenced in permitted
reflections, young people. Identifiable children’s case records,
special-category information and criminal-offence details are not
intended or authorised inputs. First initials do not necessarily make
content anonymous. The customer must minimise entries, establish a
lawful basis and give relevant notices. If prohibited information is
discovered, we will restrict unnecessary access, notify the customer
and follow lawful correction/deletion instructions; it remains
protected by this Schedule while held.
3. Confidentiality and security
Only people who need access to provide the service may process
content, under confidentiality obligations. Measures include encrypted
connections, hosted authentication, database row-level policies for
home isolation, licence checks at the database boundary, server-side
privileged credentials, scoped pending recovery storage and access
removal on licence closure. We will maintain appropriate measures
proportionate to the risks, review access and security changes, and
investigate incidents. Customers control their authorised users,
devices and exported files. Pending browser recovery is not a cloud
backup or a guarantee against loss.
4. Sub-processors and international transfers
The customer gives general written authorisation for Supabase and
Netlify for the activities described below and their listed onward
providers necessary for those services. We will impose equivalent
applicable data-protection obligations and remain responsible for our
sub-processors’ performance. We will notify the customer before adding
or replacing a sub-processor, providing an opportunity to object on
reasonable data-protection grounds. The parties will seek a reasonable
alternative; if none is available, affected processing will not
proceed without resolving the objection, and the affected service may
be ended by written agreement. We will not make a restricted transfer
without an applicable lawful safeguard and will assess the protection
required for it.
Supabase Pte. Ltd provides database and authentication services. The
primary database is hosted in London (eu-west-2), but supplier support
and other processing can take place internationally. Its
Data Processing Addendum
incorporates EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum for
applicable restricted transfers. Its
sub-processor register
identifies its onward suppliers.
Netlify, Inc provides website delivery, forms and server functions
using international infrastructure. Its
Data Processing Agreement
provides for the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework
where applicable, with Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK
Addendum as its contractual fallback. See its
sub-processor register. These arrangements do not mean UK-only processing. Contact us for
information about the relevant safeguards, subject to appropriate
redaction of confidential information.
5. Assistance and incidents
Taking account of the processing and information available to us, we
will assist the customer with data-subject rights, security
obligations, breach notifications, impact assessments and prior
regulatory consultation. We will forward requests concerning customer
content promptly and will not independently answer them except on
instruction or as required by law. We will notify the customer without
undue delay after becoming aware of a personal data breach, providing
available details of its nature, affected data/people, likely
consequences, contact point and remedial action, with updates as the
investigation proceeds. The customer remains responsible for its
controller decisions and notifications.
6. Return, recovery and deletion
When a licence ends, the account becomes inactive on Day 0. During
Days 0–30, operational and reflection data remains securely stored for
recovery. After 30 days it becomes eligible for deletion from the live
system, subject to legal or legitimate retention requirements and
normal backup cycles. This does not mean immediate deletion from every
backup. Contact us during the recovery period to arrange recovery;
normal account access is inactive. Recovery and deletion may be
administered manually at launch. Customer-downloaded copies remain the
customer’s responsibility.
The customer may request return or deletion of content. Before
closure, authorised users can download reflection copies. During the
recovery period we will verify the requester’s authority and arrange a
secure return or recovery manually. At the customer’s choice we will
return or delete personal data at the end of processing, and delete
copies unless retention is legally required. Where the customer gives
no different lawful instruction, the agreed 30-day recovery period
applies before live-system deletion becomes due for administration.
Data retained for a legal requirement is restricted to that purpose.
Residual backups remain protected and expire under normal supplier
cycles; any restoration must reapply recorded deletions. We will
record completion and explain any lawful retention exception on
request. No instant deletion from every backup is promised.
7. Accountability and permitted use
We will provide information necessary to demonstrate compliance and
permit and contribute to audits, including inspections, by the
customer or an authorised independent auditor. Timing, confidentiality
and scope will be proportionate and protect other customers’ data;
these arrangements do not restrict statutory or regulator-required
access. We will cooperate in addressing findings. We will not train AI
on, sell, benchmark or independently commercially exploit customer
reflection content. The customer retains its information rights.
Contact details and authorised instructions are those in the order and
the Contact page.
